Hotel Josephine was built by A. D. Walker in 1889 in Holton, Kansas. The Hotel was was named after Walker's daughter, Josephine. She was born September 19, 1889. The Josephine opened when she was nine months old. She graduated from Holton High School in 1908 and this picture is her graduation picture. Josephine continued her educaton and graduated from Kansas University.

The Hotel was in operation continuously longer than any hotel west of the Mississippi until it closed in December of 2010. In May of 2011 John Chiles and his daughter, Lori Ford purchased and reopened the Josephine and look forward to being your hosts during your stay.

Holton is proud to have the, locally owned, Hotel Josephine downtown to compliment our unique and beautiful business district.

Hotel Josephine picture is on the National Trust for Historic Preservation website under "This Place Matters" and in the Sept-Oct issue of Preservation magazine.
